Hello, beautiful soul family, welcome back to another episode. I am so excited you’re here and I have such a good topic for you today. I want to talk to you guys about rest, how important it is to rest. And this is actually going to be a quick little episode because I need to get back to resting. So why is rest important? Ultimately, before we can move mountains, we must first be able to sit still. So rest isn’t just about physical relaxation. It is a sacred space where you recharge spiritually, mentally and emotionally, and sometimes even physically.
You get to integrate your experiences, your insights and lessons, and it often proceeds major growth spirits on your spiritual journey. So let’s talk about a few misconceptions of rest. So a lot of times, and these can be misconceptions that other people have about us or misconceptions that we have about ourselves.
And number one is thinking that rest is laziness. So many of us think that taking time to rest is the equivalent to being lazy or unproductive, and it is just not true. True rest is actually a form of active participation in your wellbeing, because you’ve all been on an airplane and every single time you’re on that airplane, they tell you, you have to put your mask on first. And sometimes it is necessary and imperative to put your mask on first.
Number two, another misconception is that you’re falling behind. And I just want to first offer to you that what is meant for you is always going to be meant for you, whether it’s today or nine years from now. So, often in this little fast paced society that we’re in, resting can make you feel like you’re losing ground. And I just want you to remember that this is your journey and it is not a race. And you are going to get and achieve whatever it is that you are meant to get and achieve in this lifetime and resting is never going to take that away from you.
Number three, rest is unnecessary. That one could not be further from the truth. The belief that we should be doing to be effective is just false. And even the most enlightened souls take time to rest and reflect. And I’m sure you’ve all heard this, we are human beings, not human doing. I think that’s how it goes. So some signs that you need to honor the resting phase.
Number one could be burnout or fatigue. So we, especially as spiritual entrepreneurs. We have a lot physically, emotionally, spiritually, mentally going on. And that physical or emotional exhaustion, that can be a clear sign that you need to slow down or maybe even rest a little bit.
Number two is feeling disconnected. If you are feeling disengaged from your practices or your spiritual community, perhaps it’s time to recenter, regroup, reconnect.
Number three is if you might be feeling overwhelm. When you start to feel overwhelmed, that is a pretty good indicator that you need to pause and declutter your spiritual or mental spaces. And sometimes that can even show up in our physical spaces as well.
Number four, if you’re feeling lack of inspiration or joy. Spiritual practices shouldn’t be draining. If it starts to feel like a chore, it might be time to take a step back and possibly reevaluating how it is you’re thinking about these things. And that is where a coach comes in where somebody like myself can help you look at what is going on for you, this lack of inspiration or joy. How can you reset your mind in order to get you back on track with what’s going on? Or truly, maybe it’s just time to take a break.
So I wanted to offer you some tips for embracing the resting phase, because sometimes we’re not good at that. So a good way to start is setting boundaries and learning to say no when your inner self is craving that solitude or that rest. If you find yourself saying yes when you’re really wanting to say no, I want to offer you the opportunity to set some boundaries right then and there.
Also indulging in mindfulness exercises. This podcast is all about teaching and helping you create your own mindfulness practice. So if you have any questions on how to create that for yourself, you can go back and listen to the first couple of episodes because I really dive into it there. But really create a mindfulness practice for yourself because sometimes rest is as simple as being present in the moment. Mindfulness practice can also offer you the peace you’re seeking.
Another one is physical rest. If you have just been through a really big learning opportunity or if you’ve gone through a course or a training or maybe you just actually need some time for integration, your body might actually need the physical rest. If you are tired and you need a nap, take it. If you need to go in and spend some time alone, then take that as well. So whether it’s a long bath, whether it’s sleeping in or just simply sitting quietly, make sure to include physical rest in your routine.
Another tip that you can do is engage in some passive learning. So if you’ve been doing a lot of active learning, maybe you can step back a little bit and do some passive learning. Listen to an uplifting podcast or read some inspirational literature or simply watch the sunset.
Another one is ask for support. Don’t hesitate to ask for help or delegate tasks that are hindering your restful period. I’m going to tell you this is probably one of my hardest ones because when I get into this space where I need rest, I have a very hard time asking for help or asking for support.
So I just want to remind you that you probably have people around you who are there and ready to support you. And if you don’t, I want to encourage you to find your community that you can turn to because they are there and they are available and they want to help you. So seek support of people around you, ask for help or delegate tasks that are hindering your restful period.
Another one is reevaluate and plan. Use this phase to assess your goals, your spiritual practices and your life situations. I want to remind you that when you are feeling like you need to rest, that does not mean that you quit. That doesn’t mean that it’s time to throw in the towel and quit everything that you’re doing and give up and nothing’s working. It just means that it’s time to rest and it is a beautiful time for you to reevaluate and plan as well. It’s the perfect time to make tweaks or some changes in what’s going on in your life.
Another one is guilt free rest. How many of you can do guilt free rest? Remind yourself that it’s okay to rest. Put aside any guilt and truly honor this phase for what it is, a necessary pause for growth in healing. And I just want to offer, if you have people in your life that maybe don’t understand, try to communicate that this is just a period where you need to really go in, rest, reflect and work on whatever is going on inside of you because we all go through these phases.
I know I just went through one. I needed some rest. I needed some time for self-reflection. I needed my community. I actually completely put the learning aside and didn’t do any of that because I am an active learner all the time. I like to engage in things like that, but I had to physically rest. I had to put everything aside and set some really good boundaries and let many people in my life know that I needed to just take some time for me right now. It means nothing about them. It’s just what I need to do for me. So I want to offer the same to you.
So beautiful divine beings in this human form, the art of rest is a gift you give yourself. It’s an act of self-love and it is a cornerstone in and on your spiritual journey. So go ahead and honor your needs for downtime. And remember when you rest, you rise. So thank you for being here today. If this episode resonates with you, please share it with your community.
